t Margaret’s Preparatory School is an independent day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 11 years, sharing a site with St Mary’s School, Calne.


Children generally start life in the Kindergarten which offers a safe and stimulating nursery environment for 3 and 4 year old children. The focus is on nurturing and building the children’s confidence to make the move to the Reception classes the following year far less daunting. Both classes benefit from dedicated and fully experienced Early Years teachers, who are supported by well qualified Teaching Assistants, enabling the children to develop independence and a desire to learn.


In the Kindergarten, structured play and activities provide the foundation for reading, writing and number work. The children benefit from weekly lessons in games, French, cookery, music and ICT. Creative skills are nurtured and encouraged through painting, drama and musical activity. There are also plenty of opportunities to swim, dance, play games and just have fun!


St Margaret’s prides itself on its high standard of pastoral care. Every effort is made to ensure that the children never feel lost or bewildered, and that they quickly find their feet and are given a sense of belonging.
