No need for poll JAMIE Stewart has taken the vacant seat on Leybourne Parish Council following an un- contested election. The council said it was cam- paigning for the rules of calling an election to be revised due to the high costs of the process. Polling cards for a possible election had to be issued before the confirmation of candidates, with the parish council picking up the bill. But as only one per- son stood for the vacancy, an election was not necessary.

Malt House, in The Street. He said: “The proposed develop- ment will have a neutral effect on the area, on the basis that the building as reconstructed will remain the same in all material aspects and is only proposed to be moved by 1m.” The scheme had “the added advantage that it will improve the safety of the area by setting the barn back off the boundary to ensure that it is not hit by passing traffic,” he said. The borough council said the

plan involved the erection of a new homewithin the green belt and there was no justification for overriding planning policy objections.
