Tyre slasher

plea for clues POLICE have appealed for in- formation from the public after an eight-month series of attacks on cars in a small area of Had- low.

Fifteen incidents have been recorded where vehicles have had their tyres slashed overnight in and around the Water Slippe area of the village. Around 30 tyres have been damaged between December 2012 and August 2013, possi- bly with a cordless drill or pointed instrument. Inspector John Phillips said: “Some of the victims in this crime pattern have had their cars attacked on multiple occa- sions, with up to three tyres on a single car being damaged. Eight different vehicles have been affected in eight months and repairs have set residents back hundreds of pounds.” “As the victims live within a

small geographical area, and given the relatively lengthy time period over which these crimes happened, it is believed perhaps one individual or a small group may be responsible for most or all of the offences. “There must be someone out

there who knows who is re- sponsible.” Anyonewith information can

call Crimestoppers anony- mously on 0800 555 111.

£50,000 grant for cricket pavilion

LOCALcricketers are celebrating their biggest win of the season – a £50,000 grant from Sport Eng- land for a new pavilion. The Teston club was at risk of folding unless its dilapidated wooden structure could be re- placed. It could have meant per- manent “close of play” in a village where Reader’s world-fa- mous cricket ball factory was established in 1808. But that threat has now been

lifted, and Teston’s historic cricketing link lives on. Last November, members launched an urgent appeal backed by former Kent and Eng- land legend Derek Underwood - and boosted by generous dona- tions from friends of the club. A sub-committee spent the winter months putting together a bid for lottery funding, and last month came the joyous news that it had been approved. Subject to planning permis- sion, buildingwork will start in
