AVILLAGE school is celebratingwith an upgrade fromOfsted, justmonths after the arrival of a new head teacher. Trottiscliffe CE Primary School was rated good

in three out of four categories following its latest inspection in June, while the behaviour and safety of its pupils was considered outstanding. The 70-pupil school has moved up a grade from its rating of satisfactory in 2009. Head teacher Elizabeth Stevens, who joined in January, was credited with improving the quality of teaching and demonstrating her determination to make the school an outstanding place for chil- dren to learn. The report said: “Pupils make good progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Most leave

year 6 having attained at least the level expected for their age. A steadily growing proportion of pupils is on track to reach higher levels of attain- ment.

“Pupils are making faster progress because teachers are better at using assessment informa- tion to plan work that most meets the needs of most pupils.” All pupils had outstanding attitudes to learning

and their resilience and perseverance when tack- ling their work was impressive, said Ofsted. The “highly determined” governing body, chaired by Anita Parkins, was praised for playing a significant role in securing the future of the school and its commitment to continued im- provement.
