driver behaviors they will monitor such as speeding, idling, arriving late, arriving too early, regular attendance, cleanliness of bus, pre- and post-trip inspections, etc.,” he ex- plained. “Tis report will be incorporated into the evaluation instrument for bus drivers.” Gallagher added that the alerts have the
effect of changing behaviors with reminders rather than just “punishing” bad behaviors at evaluation time. Dixie Baker of GreenRoad said their cus-
tomers expressed concern about bus drivers not retaining information from safety train- ings and slipping back into bad habits. “Tat’s when we developed our unique
in-vehicle system for drivers to give them constant feedback,” Baker noted. “We alert the drivers with our system of green, yellow and red lights. Yellow is you’re a bit out of bounds, and red means it’s a very risky maneuver. We count up the number of risky maneuvers in 10 hours of driving and we as- sign a score.
