MÂCON-VERZÉ 2009 DOMAINE LEFLAIVE, BURGUNDY £16.00

Anne-Claude Lefl aive is one of the greatest ambassadors for the protection of terroir, with Domaines Lefl aive moving over to totally biodynamic farming in 1998. She has taken this viticultural philosophy into the

Maconnais, acquiring in 2004

just over nine hectares (22.3 acres) of vines in what is considered by many to be one of the most underrated parts of Southern Burgundy. She presses the grapes in Mâcon but vinifi es in Puligny-Montrachet. Gold, shot with green, the nose

is creamily fruited with a subdued buttery perfume. The palate opens up beautifully, with a taut but richly fruited array of fl avours, fi ne intensity and excellent minerality and length.

Bryce Fraser, of Corney & Barrow, chooses three Festive Season wines to accompany our Victorian Christmas banquet

PSI 2009, DOMINIO DE PINGUS, RIBERA DEL DUERO, SPAIN £22.00 100% Tempranillo, a spectacular new wine from celebrated winemaker Peter Sisseck, a fresh yet traditional interpretation of classic Ribera del Duero. Peter went to the then unknown area of Ribera del Duero in 1990 aged 27, and despite its relative obscurity, he believed the area could produce Spain’s fi nest

wines, a belief from which the iconic Pingus was created, followed by Flor de Pingus and now PSI. Rich plum in colour, with a fuchsia rim, its gorgeous swathes of red fruit are seductive on the nose, allied to fresh violets and hints of wild blackberry liqueur. This offers really delectable, vibrant fruit, intense and appetising, while a bright acidity really refreshes the wine on the fi nish – a wine that simply makes you smile. Certifi ed Biodynamic since 2003.

PEDRO XIMÉNEZ ‘SAN EMILIO’

Tasting note: Pale lemon in colour, with an attractive, open and ripe nose. The palate is dry, fresh and zesty with white fl ower and lemon characters. Colombard 50%; Ugni Blanc 50%.
