Aid worker ‘killed by natural disaster’


AWEST Peckhamman died “as a result of a natural disaster”, while working as a peacekeeper on the Caribbean island of Haiti, aMaidstone inquest heard. Fred Wooldridge (41) was working for the United Nations as a senior political affairs and planning officer in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince when the islandwas rocked by amas- sive earthquake in January 2010. MrWooldridge, who had only married his wife, fellow UN worker Teamar, the previous May, was one of a large number of people crushed when the UN office building collapsed. His body was found by rescue workers and dragged from the rubble four days after the earth- quake.

Driver banned NEIL Page (27), of Woodlands Road, Ditton, was given a sus- pended jail sentence by West Kent Magistrates after he ad- mitted driving while disquali- fied and with no insurance. He was sentenced to 90 days


in prison, suspended for 24 months, and banned from driv- ing for two years. Page must also carry out 200 hours of un- paid work within the next 12 months and pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
