Run With the Animals For the San Antonio Zoo on Sept. 6
F
ind your inner animal and grab three friends for this fun 8-mile relay race. The HEB 29th “Animal” Zoo Run, set to take place on Sept. 6 at Brackenridge Park, raises money to help fund the zoo through donations received from runners and sponsors. Teams of four can compete in the 8-mile relay race
with each participant running a total of two miles. Participants receive a Zoo Run 2013 T-shirt, and medals are awarded for first, second and third place in different categories. Awards will also be given to the top fundraising teams. Since 1914 the San Antonio Zoo has been a staple of the landscape, with locals and tourists visiting year round. All donations benefit the San Antonio Zoo and are tax deductible.

San Antonio True Green Offers Earth-Friendly Alternative
T
he dry cleaning industry doesn’t have the most environmentally friendly reputation.
Perchloroethylene (known as “perc), classified by the EPA as a carcinogen, remains the most commonly used dry cleaning solvent. Exposure can cause depression of the central nervous system, damage to the liver and kidneys, impaired memory, confusion, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and eye, nose and throat irritation. Fortunately, San Antonio-area residents have a “green” alternative: True Green Dry Cleaners, which operates two locations in north San Antonio. True Green uses liquid silicone, a non-petroleum based cleaner that does not cause health risks or contaminate the environment. Liquid silicone is essentially sand, and it cleans gently without chemical odors or residue. New customers get 20 percent off, so going green may actually save you some
“green.” True Green’s pick-up and delivery service reaches the Dominion, Fairview Plaza, Sonterra (Stone Oak area), Boerne, Leon Springs, Stone Wall, Crown Ridge, Hidden Springs, La Cantera, The Rim, Anaqua Springs, Scenic Oaks, Fair Oaks, Shavano Park, and more.
True Green has locations in Fairview Plaza, 24200 IH-10 West (210-698-9800), and Alta Vista, 20079 Stone Oak Parkway (210-490-9600), next to iRun Texas. For more information, visit

A “Smart” Exercise Alternative for
M
any women have memories of participating in dance classes
as young girls. Now you can rekindle those childhood memories while improving your strength and fitness at Smart Barre, which recently opened its second San Antonio studio in the Alon Town Centre shopping center. Originating in Fort Worth,
Smart Barre is a women’s only studio that focuses on proper postural alignment and isometric movements that create fatigue in muscle groups important to women: arms, thighs, seat and abdominals. The Smart Barre technique provides a full- body workout that concentrates on movements that strengthen and lengthen muscles. Classes incorporate a mixture of ballet principles, Pilates and yoga to target specific body areas. Participants even use a traditional ballet “barre” during specific movements.
Smart Barre studios are located in Alamo Heights at 6426 N. New Braunfels (210-822-0584) and Alon Town Centre, 10003 NW Military (210-492-2690). For information about classes, visit
www.smartbarrebody.com. Local Smart Barre studios are also looking for instructors; experienced ballet dancers, Pilates instructors, exercise physiologists, personal trainers and fitness professionals can learn more at
www.smartbarrebody.com/careers.
