School planning new languages block
A NEW modern languages and business teaching block could be built at Maplesden Noakes School, Buckland Road, Maidstone. The Department for Education’s acade-
mies capital maintenance fund is providing themoney for the project, which would en- able the demolition of temporary class- rooms. A supporting statement said: “The erec-
tion of a new teaching block will accommo- date the four demolished modern languages classrooms, and an additional four business classrooms, that are currently located in the existing sixth-form centre. “The new teaching block would be placed
where the demolished temporary buildings used to be sited. The proposed works will also include internal remodelling of the ex- isting sixth form centre to accommodate a study area, teaching area and library in place of the four business classrooms. “The school also wishes to increase the dining/social area by covering the existing
courtyard with a partially glazed roof. “This will allow an increase in intake
from 160 pupils to 200. “During the construction process, the de- canted classrooms will be accommodated in

Toilet water ‘could become drinking water’
TOILET water from Aylesford could be recycled in the River Med- way before flowing out of our taps if South EastWater fails to find the 145million extra litres of water it needs by 2040. The suggestion is one of a number
put forward in the company’s “crit- ical” water plan. Treated waste- water from Aylesford Wastewater TreatmentWorks and another plant in East Sussexwould be recycled by “putting it back into local river sys-
tems and then later treating it to make it safe to drink,” the plan stated. A South East Water spokesman
said: “Most of this wastewater comes from the home, ie sink, toilet, bath, washing machine etc, together with some surface water drainage.” Treated wastewater currently
runs out into the sea but under this proposal, the water would be taken further downstream and treated again to a higher standard.
The proposed new teaching block at Maplesden Noakes School would enable the demolition of temporary classrooms
