Editor’s A

merica dominates the global Gaming News again this month with New York legislative leaders agreeing to authorize four upstate New York casinos

designed to drive jobs and tourism to the long economically distressed area. The agreement will allow Las Vegas-style resort casinos in the Southern Tier near Binghamton, the Hudson Valley-Catskills area and the Albany area. One region may get two casinos and that will likely be in the Catskills, which has a tradition of resort development. The deal also authorizes two video slot centers of 1,000 machines each on Long Island run by the off-track betting agencies of Suffolk and Nassau counties. Voters will have the final say in Autumn 2013. As we tipped off last month the casinos in Sri Lanka are to undergo a sea

change with all seven casinos located in Colombo to be re-located to the special casino zone declared by the Government at the D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha – Beira Lake area. This special area has been set up to attract high- spending tourists to the country, offering various entertainment options. Colombo has seven licensed casinos currently operated by businessmen Dhammika Perera and Ravi Wijeratne, all of which are compelled to move to the new location under new guidelines for the operation of casinos. Mr. Wijeratne is the local partner for James Packer’s $530 million hotel and casino opening in the new location. Meanwhile in the UK the developers behind Bath’s first casino have said

they hope building work could start early next year with a view to open by the end of 2015. Deeley Freed, the firm behind the £14 million Saw Close scheme for a casino, hotel and two restaurants, has already submitted pre-planning papers and are aiming to have a full planning application ready by July. The Spring Slot Summit was a another popular success held this year at the

new Hohensyburg Casino and plans are already underway for the Paris event in December where I look forward to meeting up with many of you. However, before that there’s the slight issue of G2E where we will, as usual have a stand. Finally I would like to welcome Daniel Lindsay and Janice Chaka as our new

roving International Correspondents. Daniel has 20+ years in manufacturing and supply to this industry and Janice is the founder of the popular LinkedIn group “Casino Professionals” so they have a wealth of experience to bring to the table.
