EDITOR’S words F
ederation work continues apace and there is much to be done! Following the
excitement of the Chancellor allocating the RAF Families Federation a share of the LIBOR fines to support the implementation of the Armed Forces Covenant the Covenant sits high on the agenda.
And speaking of the Armed Forces Covenant, we include in this issue an 8 page pull-out guide covering both the Armed Forces Covenant and the Community Covenant, explaining how each has a part to play in recognising Service personnel and their families and
removing the disadvantage where it occurs.
We are looking this year to recruit volunteer representatives to work on units and enlarge the RAF FF footprint, so if this is something you might be interested to explore please do get in touch to find out more.
The New Employment Model Consultation (NEM) has now been launched and within the next few weeks we are expecting the Reserves 2020 White Paper, the DIO Living Accommodation Review and a clarification on CEA Rules. Keep an eye on our website for updates and requests for your input.
Remember, if you have an issue that is
RAF-related and needs the attention of someone in the higher levels of policy and decision making we are only a few clicks or a call away.
Good reading. The Minister pops in for coffee D
espite his busy schedule, the Minister of State for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, Mark
Francois MP, took time to pop into the RAF Families Federation offices at Wittering to meet the team, answer their questions and to share some of his views on current issues, including the weather……it was pouring down.
The Minister stressed how much he values the important role the Federation has in contributing to RAF and MoD business and
how important it is that RAF personnel and their families have an independent voice that sits outside the Chain of Command.
He spoke about a number of current issues but focussed in particular on the forthcoming consultation period for the New Employment Model (NEM), and asked for our help in encouraging all personnel and their families to contribute their views. He expects that NEM will offer personnel more choice about their career patterns and so reduce some of the disadvantages the service lifestyle
can engender. He also acknowledged
the concerns many people have about the quality of service accommodation and spoke of his determination to provide an accommodation service that respects its customers and their needs.
We were enormously pleased that the Minister took the time to visit. He is very approachable and is very willing to listen to and discuss the concerns of RAF personnel and their families. They need all to be your words though, not ours, so let us know your views and we will pass them on.
