He will discuss the im- portance of cross training between student transportation personnel and school police, especially in light of the recent tragedies in Newtown, Conn., and Midland City, Ala.

The 35th Nevada School
Bus Safety Road-eo, with the theme “Camping in the Lakes,” returns on July 20 to the parking lot of the Grand Sierra Resort, the host hotel. Diana Hollander, state direc- tor of student transportation at the Nevada Department of Education and the Road- eo organizer, said about 10 teams of school districts from across the state are expected compete. The state title goes to the contestant with the overall highest score in a competition that includes written knowledge and vehicle-inspection test plus navigating an 11-event, behind-the-wheel course that tests everything from student loading to paral- lel parking. A total of 750 points is available. The largest of the teams
expected to be in attendance is Clark County School Dis- trict in Las Vegas, which had 55 contestants signed up at press time. The “Top Gun Award” win- ner will receive the highest score from all categories and classes, and last year’s winner, Judie Reinhardt rep- resenting Clark County while driving a transit-style school bus, was also named “Rookie of the Year.” In addition to School Transportation News, other sponsors include Ameri- can Bus Sales; Auto Safety House; Bryson Sales and Service; RO Bus & Sales; Seon; Q’Straint/Sure-Lok; Webasto;and Zonar Systems.
