Blue Bird transferred the Roush-Ford technology to its Type
C Vision in 2008, and launched the second-generation Vision Propane-Powered School Bus in 2011, along with a similar propane system for its Type A Micro Bird by Girardin. In 2010, Collins Bus Corporation was the first Type-A, school- bus manufacturer to introduce a propane model, through a partner- ship with Clean Fuels USA and General Motors. GM developed a platform for school buses on its Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana 3500 and 4500 van-cutaway chassis. Later this year, Tomas Built Buses is expected to offer some
Type C competition, with a propane-fueled offering of Saf-T-Liner C2 bus. Te product is being developed through a partnership with CleanFUEL USA and Freightliner. “Te past two years have been phenomenal. Customers are no

In June, Mesa Public Schools in Arizona declared a goal of op-
erating the first all-propane-autogas school bus fleet in the nation. Te announcement was made in conjunction with the purchase of 55 Blue Bird Propane-Powered Vision 77-passenger school buses and six 42-passenger wheelchair-accessible buses to increase their propane-autogas bus total to 89. Te school district expects to save $4.43 million in operating costs over a five-year period. Te district has a way to go as it boasts a fleet of more than 540
school buses, but the commitment has been made. “Tese propane autogas buses have surpassed our expectations
in how smooth and effortless they run and how easy they are to service. Te quality and reliability have been outstanding. We plan to keep coming back for more until we are 100-percent propane powered,” said Ron Latko, director of transportation for Mesa Public Schools.
