BOXLEY Parish Council has de- cided to prepare a neighbour- hood development plan but it must first consult residents on the area the plan will cover. NDPs were introduced by the Localism Act and give commu- nities a chance to influence de- velopment in their area. A neighbourhood plan can cover a range of planning issues that are locally important, such as com- munity facilities and low-cost housing. The plan will need to be consistent with the evolving Maidstone Borough Local Plan and, if adopted, it becomes part of that document More information about neighbourhood planning is

Officers elected COUNCILLOR Ivor Davies was re-elected chairman of Boxley Parish Council at its annual meeting at Beechen Hall, Walderslade. Cllr Pat Brooks was re-elected vice-chairman. CllrWendyHinder was re-ap- pointed chairman of the envi- ronment committee with Cllr Paul Dengate as vice-chairman. Cllr Vic Davies will remain chairman of the estates com- mittee with Cllr Bob Hinder as vice-chairman. As chairman of the parish council, Cllr Ivor Davies will chair the finance and general purposes committee with Cllr Vic Davies as vice-chairman. The financial scrutiny com- mittee was disbanded as it was now found to be duplicating work of the finance committee.

Vacant seat A VACANCY exists in the south of the parish which the parish council looks to fill by co-option. As the South Ward (Boxley, Grove Green, Sandling etc.) is under-represented, the parish council is particularly keen to hear from interested residents in that area. If you are over 18, on the reg-

ister of electors and wish to help your local community, please consider standing. Information on the role can

be found on the parish coun- cil’s website or from the parish office.

available on the communities and local government website – www.communities.gov.uk. As the first stage in the process, Boxley Parish Council has applied to Maidstone Coun- cil to designate a neighbour- hood area, which details the geographical area the plan would cover. The parish council has de-

cided that one plan should cover the whole parish, so that it equally values all the varied communities it represents. The parish council feels any

future significant development in one area would impact on surrounding communities. By having a single neighbourhood

area all submissions will be in the one document. The request, including a map

of the proposed neighbourhood area can be viewed on:  the neighbourhood planning page of Maidstone Borough Council’s website: www.maidstone.gov.uk;  the parish council’s website www.boxleyparishcouncil.org. uk; and on  the parish council’s notice- boards. The information is also avail-

able to view at the parish office from 9am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday. As yet there are no detailed plans or proposals. These will

end of Boxley Warren, and two archaeology/heritage weekends had taken place, resulting in some interesting finds. Future activities will include a butterfly course on July 21, as

well as the development of an interpretation strategy, the pur- chase of tools and provision of training.

Complaints received over potholes PARISH clerk Pauline Bowdery reported a number of complaints had been received about potholes in Boxley Road, south of the vil- lage. A request for KCC funding for top layering last year was re- fused but another was being made. Meanwhile some patching work would be done. Residents are reminded that potholes, of which there are many throughout the parish, can be reported on the KCC website, where there is an interactive map allowing the precise location to be iden- tified.

Layby progress FOLLOWING concerns over re- fuse and health issues at the layby in Old Chatham Road, Maidstone Council said it was seeking a solution. Cllr Wendy Hinder said the borough was talking to Ton- bridge andMalling Council and KCC about the area which was being used as an overnight lorry park. Maidstone Council said it vis- ited/cleansed the area three times a week and had installed larger wheelie bin-sized litter bins. The borough had also asked KCC to ensure the grass verge was mowed regularly, providing an opportunity for cleansing teams to remove waste. Chairman Ivor Davies said: “It seems there is some progress, but we need to con- tinue monitoring.”

Allotments work PREPARATORY work on the proposed allotments site was progressing well, members were told. Cllr Bob Hinder, leader of the working group set up to ad- vance the project, said discus- sions with the Royal Engineers, who would undertake some of the ground work, were pro- gressing. The Medway Valley Country Partnership and other volun- teers were thanked for their help at the site.
