Taking the top prize – a business unit at the Slough Trading Estate, free for a period of one year – is Burnham-based Marigold Cleaning, run by Vicky Gregory.

Established in January 2005, Marigold Cleaning offers a range of cleaning and janitorial services to businesses and despite the economic downturn the business has grown steadily in recent years. Marigold Cleaning will move into 887 Plymouth Road at the Enterprise Quarter on Slough Trading Estate in May.

In joint second place are Kompost, an on-site food recycling company and Macanta Solutions an ATM part and recycling company, who were both commended by the judges and awarded a year’s membership to the Federation of Small Businesses. dumpTackle, a rugby clothing brand won third prize taking home free advertising with the Berkshire Media Group with a rate card value of £2,000.

Speaking about The Entrepreneur Competition, Paul Lewis, regional director for the Thames Valley at SEGRO, said: “It has been fantastic to see the true entrepreneurial spirit of businesses in the Thames Valley and the diversity of organisations that entered the competition. SMEs are a vital part of the economic landscape and providing support to them through competitions such as this will encourage growth and assist British industry in remaining competitive.

“We would like to offer our congratulations to all the businesses who have been involved in the competition and our thanks to our partners. We’re delighted to welcome Marigold Cleaning to the Trading Estate and we look forward to working with Vicky over the coming year.”

Vicky Gregory of Marigold Cleaning added: “I’m delighted. I really did not expect to win. This is such a huge opportunity for our company. I had not even thought of expanding my business until I saw this opportunity. It means so much to me; I just can’t wait to get started now.”

property Major occupier Kyocera signs for town-centre offices

Acting on behalf of the Mapeley Group, national commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has completed a 25,617 sq ft office letting in Reading which will see one of the town’s major occupiers relocate and expand its premises.

Kyocera Document Solutions, one of the world’s leading document output management companies, has signed a lease expiring in January 2021 at Eldon Court, London Road in Reading. Kyocera is currently based in Beacontree Plaza on Gillette Way.

Kyocera is a Japanese company, established in 1959 and headquartered in Kyoto. Its UK headquarters have been based in Reading since 1988, and the company has since established a support centre in Milton Keynes and a technology suite in London. It sells and supports its product range in the UK and Republic of Ireland, through a network of authorised distributors, dealers and resellers.

Tom Fletcher, associate director in LSH’s Reading Agency team, commented: “The size of the deal, and the relocation of a prominent occupier within the town, make this an important office transaction for Reading and will give the town centre’s office take-up figures a boost. With a lease break looming later this year the company recognised that

current market conditions could be used to its advantage in being able to upgrade its accommodation. Its current offices total around 15,000 sq ft, so taking 25,617 sq ft at Eldon Court also gives flexibility for growth.”

Duncan Jarvis, senior asset manager at Mapeley Estates, commented: “We are delighted to have assisted Kyocera Document Solutions in its continued success in Reading, and to have achieved another significant letting this year within Mapeley’s office estate.”

Fletcher added: “Looking at the Thames Valley

as a whole, total office take-up reached 1.53m sq ft in 2012 – compared to the 1.7m recorded in the previous two years. While this dip was seen as much in Reading as in other centres in the region, there are now a number of large town centre deals in progress that we expect to boost 2013 take-up figures considerably.”

LSH, Savills and Campbell Gordon acted for Mapeley Estates, and Campbell Gordon acted for Kyocera Document Solutions.
