School to admit more pupils
KINGS Hill School is set to ex- pand, as education chiefs ad- dress the soaring demand for primary places in the area. The school, which currently
has 422 pupils, will take an extra 30 from September with the increase of its reception classes from two to three. KCC has also agreed to three reception classes in 2014, but expects the expansion will be temporary, with the school shrinking back to two intake classes the following year. Head teacher Kerry Thomas
and staff have welcomed the news, saying: “Kings Hill School is proud to announce
CRICKETERSwere horrified to find the Snodland pavilion they had been renovating had been van- dalised – only to discover a repeat attack the following night. Newshowers and a toilet at Hol- borough Anchorians were dam- aged, a door was broken from its hinges, paint was strewn on the floor, ceiling tiles were pulled down, pictures were taken down and smashed and beer cans were sprayed around. Two signatures were written on
thewalls amidst the graffiti. RayPettitt, lifememberandclub captain, said the vandals had got
that Kent County Council has- decided to expand our school, in response to the ever-growing demand for school places in Kings Hill. “Our buildings will be ex- tended and we are really look- ing forward to welcoming so many more local children.” Planning permission has been granted for the new classrooms. The other primary school on
the upmarket development, the Discovery School, was given permission earlier this year to increase its reception to three- form entry, admitting 90 chil- dren, instead of the current 60. However, parents and parish
councillors, who objected to this expansion, continue to call for a permanent solution at Kings Hill, insisting a third pri- mary school is needed. At Kings Hill School, work
has been underway to enhance outdoor facilities. Teaching as- sistant Emma Gilman joined from Leeds Castle to develop outdoor learning, and has started lunchtime clubs involv- ing the children in tasks such as clearing mounds of leaves. The pond area is also being re- furbished and a polytunnel is being constructed at the edge of the school field for the children to grow produce.
