Fragolina is jewel of a shop
AFTER trading at various fairs and events for several years, Fragolina Shop opened its first boutique space at the Abbey
Arcade in West Malling High Street in October 2011.
Selling handmade jewellery and designer dresses and accessories with a vintage flair, the growing business needed more space and
moved into 1 Swan Street, part of the former Baldocks site, earlier this year.
Fragolina means “Little Strawberry” in Italian – the nationality of its owner Eleanora Longo.
After working in retail in London for nine
years, she decided to launch her own business in West Malling and the move to the new premises has enabled her to extend her range of handpicked pieces.
The shop now also has a mini gallery tucked away in the corridor with limited edition hand-framed prints.
Mini roundabouts LARKFIELD BROWNIES need remarking
By Sue Hadaway
Larkfield Parish Council is pressing KCC to remark the mini roundabouts in Lunsford Lane and Gighill Road, Larkfield.
These features were put in some time ago as a traffic calming measure along the route which is used a lot by traffic from the A20 to Leybourne Way with its Tesco store and link to the A228 to Snodland and beyond. They are also designed to help vehicles join Lunsford lane from side roads such as Kingfisher Road and Chaucer Way.
However the white lines, road marked give way signs, and painted roundabouts themselves have in places become faint and need remarking to make them properly clear.
The parish council feels that many people are not aware they should give way to traffic on the right when approaching the roundabouts and this highway code needs to be reinforced by keeping the mini roundabout features clearly marked.
East Malling and Larkfield Parish Council Chairman David Thornewell said: “This is a busy route especially at peak times and I have experienced myself people not giving way when they should do so. KCC should urgently remark them and make sure they are regularly maintained.”
This July, Larkfield Brownies will be losing its leader, Sue Rumney, as she has decided to resign. Sue has given over 20 years of service to Brownies and Girlguiding in Larkfield and given a great number of girls the chance to experience the fun and adventure of Brownies. Over the years she has arranged countless activities and opportunities for girls in Girlguiding, ranging from craft and cooking to pack holidays and days out as well as being involved in local community projects. I’m sure many readers will have got to know her over the years and will join me in commending her for her service and dedication to Girlguiding and the community.
Larkfield Brownies is now looking for a new leader and unit
helpers to take over the running of the unit, so that young girls can continue to enjoy the Brownie adventure. As a volunteer with Girlguiding you can simply turn up each week to help run the programme, become involved in team planning, or gain your adult leadership qualification. You get so much back from the girls, it is fun and rewarding, and remember everything they get to try, you get to try too. If you are interested in helping or would like to find out more please contact District Commissioner Sue Hadaway on 01732 845401 or for more information on Girlguiding, or to register your interest online check out our website
