The Law Society
www.lawsociety.org.uk
You can now stay connected by signing up for free newsletters, viewing the latest news and following The Law Society on Twitter. The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession’s regulators, government and others, to offering training and advice, we’re here to help, protect and promote solicitors across England
This is a fantastic site to help you choose the right LLM degree to study. The site deals with LLM study destinations, applications, funding and student life.
www.llmstudy.com also has extremely useful articles about a variety of LLM courses.
Junior Lawyers Division
http://juniorlawyers.lawsociety.org.uk
Launched in January 2008 for junior lawyers across England and Wales, the JLD is a division of the Law Society with an independent voice. This division represents all student members of the Law Society enrolled through the SRA, trainees, and solicitors with up to five years’ active PQE. The site features news and events, advice and support and is basically an essential for anyone studying for a law qualification.
Law Gazette
www.lawgazette.co.uk
The Law Society’s Gazette will keep you right up to date with everything that is occurring concerning UK and EU law. It is a comprehensive online newspaper which you can subscribe to, featuring the latest news, opinions from experts and online blogs.
The Essay Question is: Discuss the current and future effects of social media
technology on civil and / or criminal litigation, including what steps litigators will now have to take to protect their clients’ positions.
Essays must be no more than 2,000 words in length. The winner will receive a prize of £500 and the runners-up will receive £250.
Entries must be submitted by email to the JLD.
Only students registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (for example, LPC students and post-qualified LPC students working as paralegals) and trainee solicitors are eligible to enter this competition. However, the JLD has agreed to extend eligibility to include students who are due to commence the LPC in September, as long as they can confirm that they have submitted an application for student enrolment prior to the essay deadline.
If you are a student and are not registered with the SRA, you can attain student membership. There is more information on the SRA’s website.
