TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR STILL THINKS OF SCHOOL BUSES EVEN AFTER HIGH-RISK BRAIN SURGERY

We hear many stories about the dedication of student

transporters, and someone who fits that bill — actually surpasses it — is Audrae Barnes. Te transportation director for Hattiesburg (Miss.) Public School District underwent high-risk surgery in October to remove a nickel-sized tumor near his brain stem. Yet, during the time he went through various forms in intense therapy, which would prompt anyone in that situation to focus only on their recovery, his mind did not once deviate

from the daily operations back at the transportation department. Mississippi State Director Leonard Swilley is a close friend of Barnes and

called him “one of the state’s most highly respected transportation professionals.” Swilley added said Barnes is so dedicated to his job that “when he was finally able to respond to me through conversation, one of his first questions was, ‘Have all the routes been covered?’” Read more of Barnes’ story at www.stononline.com/go/2h.
