Woods feature in TV dogging report

ABEAUTY spot near Stockbury featured in a Channel 4 docu- mentary following years of in- appropriate behaviour in the woods.

Director Leo Maguire visited woodland just off the A249, close to Steps Hill Road and Chalky Road, while shooting the hour-long programme about “dogging” – a practice in which people have sex in public in front of strangers. As well as anonymous inter-

views with people who partake in the activity the documentary, called Dogging Tales, featured a father-of-two from Stockbury explaining the effects their be- haviour had on his family. The man, whose identity was

kept hidden, said he and his wife used to take their two daughters for walks in the woods when they were young, until they discovered a naked man there. The resident showed the cam- eraman how the woods had been divided into small areas linked by a maze of paths so it resembled “a city”. He said he

had discovered mattresses, un- derwear and condoms in the woods and reported seeing up to 16 cars at a time parked nearby, seven days a week. He said he and his family had moved from London to Stock- bury for a quiet life in the coun- try, and the activity came as a “really bad shock”. Kent Highway Services in- stalled wooden posts at the edge of the woods to prevent people parking there and resi- dents reported the activity to police and councillors. Finally, the problem moved away. When Mr Maguire asked the resident what it was like to have his woods back, he replied: “Great. This is what it should be like.”

However, another Stockbury resident, who did not wish to be identified for fear of repercus- sions, told the Downs Mail the problem had not gone away; the “doggers” had simplymoved to Aerodrome Approach and Detling Airfield Industrial Es- tate andwere still causing prob- lems for people living nearby.
