Congrats to the University of Memphis School of Law on being ranked one of the top 150 law schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. Te school came in at 144 on the annual list released in March. Te new ranking reflects Memphis Law's strong bar passage rate, solid employment statistics, student to faculty ratio, LSAT scores and average expenditures per student. Te law school's bar passage rate placed it in the top 20 in the nation.


Te Memphis law firm of Burch, Porter & Johnson was recognized for its commitment to providing free legal services at the 7th Annual Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Initiative Gala in March. Tis firm received the Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Law Firm Award for a partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital that is meeting critical needs for low-income families managing treatment of their children at the hospital. For the past year, the Memphis firm has helped patients and their families cope with a unique but critical issue: what to do when a minor child reaches the age of majority but is too neurologically impaired to consent to his or her own treatment in an informed manner. Burch Porter honor, continued has responded to that challenge by helping low-income families establish conservatorships for the benefit of the patient, which allow parents and other caring family members to direct treatment for the patient. James Croom


James L. Croom, Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, was recently appointed by the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals as Bankruptcy Judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Judge Croom's chambers and courtroom are located in the District's


Eastern Division at Jackson, Tenn. Judge Croom received his bachelor degree from the University of Tennessee- Martin with high honors, and his J.D. from the Cecil C. Humphrey's School of Law.
