SkyDrive 100 GB Cloud Storage ($100/year) Next, you will want to decide which cloud program

you want to use. Each one has different advantages and disadvantages . For example, the free space available to users for Sky Drive is 7 GB versus only 2 GB for Dropbox. Also, Sky Drive, Google Drive and iCloud all offer stripped down applications for basic word processing and spreadsheet creation while Dropbox doesn’t. Choose the one that fits your needs keeping in mind the price points and the other benefits.

HP Pavilion 14 Sleekbook ($600) Now it is time to choose your primary peripheral. To stay under budget, I suggest selecting an Ultrabook. Tere are many options with prices ranging from about $500 to nearly as much as a normal laptop, i.e., nearly $2000.

But, don’t get mixed up in trying to get the best processor or the largest hard drive. Instead, think convenience. Look for the smallest profile and the lightest weight. Balance that with battery life, instant-on capabilities, number and type of input ports and keyboard design/comfort. You want to select the device that is most convenient to use on the run. Why? Because, it will only be used to remotely control your main computer. With that in mind, you want the most internet accessibility and the most convenient profile for use and carrying. Tis version is a sleek 13.66 x 9.37 x 0.83 inches weighing in at only 3.96 lbs. Note that you can also get an Acer Aspire S7 for $1300 with dimensions of 12.73 x 8.79 x 0.47 inches and weighing only 2.9 lbs. Te Acer also boasts a 128 GB solid state hard drive for those very few programs that you absolutely must load locally (think Adobe Acrobat Professional and Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional).

Mifi Jetpack 4G LTE (Verizon Wireless) ($50 w/2 yr Contract) I’m going to fudge here a little with our budget since

technically this also requires a monthly service contract. But, it doesn’t make sense these days not to carry your own access to internet. Further, since dependence upon service is so critical— you don’t want to find yourself in the courthouse somewhere and you have no service—it simply makes sense to pay a little extra for the service to get one of the big providers like Verizon.

Logitech M305 Wireless Mouse ($25) For those occasions when you have the space

to work with your Ultrabook, you will want to have a mouse for the best control. While a touch pad is convenient, it just doesn’t provide all of the control that you might need to manipulate your files and edit your documents. With this wireless

mouse, you can leave the USB connector connected to your Ultrabook permanently and use the mouse only when you need it by simply pulling it out and turning it on.
