Glen Alan Kyle
Glen Alan Kyle is the 2013 recipient of the BankTennessee John S. Wilder Law School Scholarship, announced Jim Rout, bank president and CEO. Te scholarship is named in memory of John S. Wilder, Sr., a former Lieutenant Governor of the State of Tennessee, a former vice-chairman of the BankTennessee's
board of directors and one of the founders of the bank. Te endowed scholarship is awarded annually to a University of Memphis third-year law student and Tennessee resident who has demonstrated, in the spirit of Wilder, a commitment to public service and to enhancing the common good.
Te University of Memphis National Trial Team advanced to the semifinal round of the 38th Annual National Trial Competition, held in San Antonio, Texas, April 4-7th. Te Team,
comprised of advocates Brigid Welsh ( '13), Drew Davis "conVenIens" by stephen r. leffler, esq.
( '13), and Sam Hinson ( '14), defeated number one seed Cumberland School of Law in the national quarterfinals. In the national semifinals, the team fell to eventual national champion Georgetown University Law Center in a close, split decision. Coached by Professor Danny Schaffzin and Professor Michelle Slack, the Trial Team earned Memphis Law's best finish in the National Trial Competition since 1998. After defeating Vanderbilt Law School to win the Region 11 Championship at the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville, Memphis advanced with 27 other teams to the national championship rounds in Texas.
Under the direction of attorney Steve Shields, the University of Memphis School of Law's Mediation Team, comprised of students Tom Williams and Chris Martin, won the regional
competition for the second year in a row. Te team advanced to the National Competition in Chicago.
