BBC’s ‘The One Show’ and ‘Gardeners’ Question Time’ regular, Christine Walkden, to attend
Tavistock Garden Festival
THIS annual event, now in its ninth year, sets out to celebrate the best of gardens, countryside and local food on Sunday 26th and Monday 27th May, 10am - 4pm, in and around Tavistock’s historical Pannier Market and Town Hall.
“Tavistock 1943” celebrations with a “Dig for Victory” theme and vintage 1940’s garden products and displays.
The Town Hall is the Food and Craft Hall with a great selection of artisan and local food producers and crafts with ample tasting opportunities to try before you buy. In addition many of Tavistock’s wonderful independent shops and cafes will also be open; with more than just plants on offer there will be plenty to tempt you to indulge in some retail therapy!
This year we are delighted to have a special guest demonstrator on 27th May, renowned horticulturist and broadcaster Christine Walkden, who will be sharing tips from her latest book “No Nonsense Container Gardening”. Christine has been a horticulturist since the age of ten when she first obtained an allotment and started growing vegetables and flowers. She now works for many of the horticultural colleges and professional trade organisations as well as being a broadcaster, author and lecturer. Christine will be presenting for the BBC from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and we are thrilled that she will be able to join us a few days later.
Inside the Market Hall the focus is on plants, with inspiring displays and a variety of specialist nurseries selling a fantastic array of plants. The participating nurseries, and the Devon branch of Plant Heritage (NCCPG), are also a great source of horticultural knowledge and happy to answer any planting queries. Bedford Square and the Market exterior will also be bustling with an eclectic mix of plants, garden machinery, garden crafts, displays and demonstrations. Tavistock Garden Festival is also proud to be part of the
budding beginner or just looking for a great day out, there will be something for everyone to enjoy at Tavistock Garden Festival and entry is free!
