SPONSORS OF DISTRIBUTED WIND

9 KEY STAGES

There are 9 key stages to considering getting your project from inception to fruition.

1 Wind Assessments – wind assessments are often needed to get sound financial backing and to get the warranties on power curve. The time taken to do these has reduced to about 5 weeks with a virtual study

2 Planning Consent – a well-prepared submission will minimise potential delays

3 Grid Connection offer – this can take 3 months and could still give a connection date after the FIT deadline has passed as grid capacities vary across the UK.

4 FIT Pre-Accreditation – can be registered if you have secured planning consent and a grid connection for your site by the December 2013 deadline.

5 Finances – sound financial backing is paramount and, if using a bank, this can take some months to approve. Sign the wind turbine contract and pay the booking fee. Turbines can take from 4 months to 18 months to be delivered, which could affect the FIT deadline.

6 Discharge planning conditions – this can take 3 months.

7 Turbine build – this takes on average 10 to 12 weeks for a medium wind turbine. This includes turbine installation, electrical contractor, civil contractors, turbine installations, DNo works, turbine commissioning and is subject to key components being available such as transformers and DNo response times.

8 Commission your turbine – secure your FIt Rate before April 2014 if you haven’t got an approved pre-accreditation.

9 Making the most out of the FIT – make sure that you have good warranties, contracted operational figures, and an operation and maintenance contract to ensure you have well serviced, well looked after turbines generating the contracted performance figures.

over the last 18 months ICE Renewables has installed and now operates and maintains 3.1MW of turbines and can offer support on your wind turbine project.
