FALCK NUTEC MAKES MAJOR INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE OF OFFSHORE TRAINING

Falck Nutec, one of the world’s leading providers of safety training and offshore services, has invested £400,000 in a state-of-the-art helicopter landing platform at The Fire Training Group’s (TFTG) training centre at Aberdeen Airport.

The Helideck platform, which replicates those used to transport oil and gas industry personnel to offshore installations and vessels, will provide industry-leading training.

WIND INDUSTRY

In the medium to long term the facility may also be used by personnel working on offshore wind farms and associated vessels as the renewables industry continues to develop and helicopters come increasingly into play in this sector, opening up training opportunities for increasing numbers of industry professionals.

UNIQUE TRAINING APPROVAL The investment comes as the company celebrates becoming the world’s only industrial training facility to hold approval to deliver all five Global Wind organisation (GWO) training modules as well as both of the Renewable UK wind industry specific training courses. The accolade has been awarded to Falck’s Teesside training facility.

HELICOPTER TRAINING the new facility means that Falck Nutec and TFTG can operate the most up to date and realistic helicopter training for offshore

personnel on the offshore Emergency Heli team Member (oEHtM) and Further Helicopter Landing officer (FHLo) training courses.

SPECIFICATION

The training rig measures some 16 metres in diameter, which is double the size of the existing facility at the site and allows a far superior training experience for delegates.

The Helideck features a simulator of the new E225 helicopter design, which further positions Falck Nutec at the forefront of helicopter training for offshore industries.

Catherine Liebnitz, Centre Manager for Falck Nutec Aberdeen said: “The new Helideck is another fantastic training asset for Falck Nutec. We are delighted that we can offer realistic training which meets with growing client demand for specialist training and now, also having been awarded OPITO approval to deliver the HLO Further course, this puts us in an excellent position for the future.”

GROWING DEMAND David o’Neill, Head of the Fire training Group at Aberdeen Airport, said: “We are delighted by this development. Falck Nutec’s investment in this project is a sign of the growing demand in the energy sector for offshore safety and fire training. Aberdeen Airport has invested in additional instructional staff for its Fire Training Group to enable the delivery of

additional courses for Falck Nutec upon completion of the project.

WINNING COMBINATION

“Our partnership with Falck Nutec over the years has resulted in a winning combination dedicated to delivering quality training. The introduction of a 16 metre diameter helideck will further enhance the realistic training scenarios provided for delegates to develop their skills.

“The continued investment by ourselves and Falck Nutec over the years demonstrates a commitment to continually improve the training experience for all, and places us at the forefront of training provision in the offshore sector.”

The installation of the new Helideck takes the total capital expenditure by Falck Nutec UK in 2012 up to £1.1m.

MORE GOOD NEWS

As well as offering the GWO and RenewableUK courses, Falck Nutec UK also provides fitness to work assessments, as per the RUK guidelines and complementary training such as slinger/banksman and rigging and lifting training, making Falck Nutec a one-stop- shop for the wind industry.
