OFFSHORE WIND CONFERENCE

SUCCESS OF YORKSHIRE FIRMS IN OFFSHORE WIND INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHTED

The success of Yorkshire businesses in winning work in the offshore wind industry was showcased at a regional supply chain conference.

OFFSHORE WIND: A GUIDE FOR BUSINESS

Offshore Wind: A Guide For Business also outlined what the area’s companies need to do to help more of them secure contracts in the sector.

ADVANCED MANUFACTURING RESEARCH CENTRE (AMRC) Staged at the AMRC, Rotherham, the hi-tech capabilities of the host venue, and the expertise of South Yorkshire’s established manufacturers, were also key themes of the event.

The conference, organised by the Renewables Network and Footprint Renewables and sponsored by Nabarro, was aimed at helping firms prepare for opportunities in offshore wind energy – which could become a significant part of the Yorkshire economy in the years to come.

RENEWABLES NETWORK Sam pick, business Development Director of the Humber-based Renewables Network – which supports companies to enter the market – said: “In terms of offshore wind, 2013 could be an important year for businesses in the region.

“Key decisions are expected, particularly in connection with port-based developments, and global companies will be looking for local partners.

“But what is also crucial to remember is how work is already going on – especially with regards smaller-scale offshore wind farms close to the east coast.

“With strong case studies, the Offshore Wind: A Guide For Business event demonstrated this and how local companies can win contracts.

“Hopefully, this message and conference will help and inspire other Yorkshire- based businesses to gain a foothold in this dynamic industry.

SPENCER GROUP

Among those businesses that presented at the supply chain conference was Spencer Group – a specialist engineering firm which works across many different disciplines.

Recently, the company, which has its headquarters at One Humber Quays on Hull Marina, has won significant contracts supporting onshore electrical infrastructure work for both Dong Energy and E.oN, the latter through CG power.

Richard Burgess, Managing Director of the Spencer Group’s professional services division, spoke at the conference.
