08 EVENT REVIEW

on the Friday for the British Cycling Kit launch.

For me the non-cycler it was the DMR Pump Track and IG London Nocturne & RCUK Test Track that really peeked my interest. On the former racers were pitted head to head in 20 second races over rollers and

over rollers and On Yeh Bike London!

For most, the start of the year is that glum period where all go back to work, bank accounts are a little low, credit cards are maxed out and the weather is pretty much arctic. Yes there’s not much that can brighten up ones spirits….. or is there??

Enter London Bike Show and friends Active Travel Show, The Outdoors Show and The London Boat Show. For one dreary weekend Excel London was transformed into a summer of fun, outdoorsy activeness with a side of luxury yachting darrrling! It was definitely come one come all as your Bike Show ticket gained you entry to all three other shows and vice versa the others.

My main stay was the Bike Show. For the avid cycler this is an absolute must! There was much to keep you occupied, be you, commuter, road, mountain biker, track or BMX enthusiast. There was the latest in bike technology, hot wheels, GoPro gadgetry, a training hub (expert massage, stretch therapy ooh er missus!), super tight lycraness passing for cycling gear, animal print helmets and Sir Chris Hoy! Sir Chris made an appearance

berms on two 200m tracks. This form of racing, ‘Pump Track’ is fast becoming the latest craze and combines 4X, Downhill, Cross Country and Dirt Jumping mountain biking skills. To watch it’s fast action fun! On the latter I caught one of the folding bike challenges. The sight of competitors dressed up like summert out of the 1930s traversing the circuit on those mini wheelers while the sound of the audience’s cowbells cheered them along was a right giggle!

Taking full advantage of the four show access, I wandered through the active travel and outdoors shows and came out wholly unsatisfied with my holidays of past. This summer I’m going all in on one of those back packing jobbies!! My last stop was the Boat Show. OMG! My how the other half live! Beautiful, sleek gleaming yachts of all shapes and sizes decked in plush leather and the most decadent hi-tech gadgets!

I left Excel with a whole lot of aspirations and a mighty long active summer bucket list!
