Do you have a dream? For Andrew and David, their dream of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro took

shape over Christmas lunch in 2010 and 2011. By Christmas 2012, plans had been made, visas were stamped and their bodies inoculated. And they’d been joined by 23 others keen to scale Africa’s highest peak to raise £25,000 for Carr Gomm’s Catch the Dream Programme.

Winter update

This is an important year for all of us in lots of different ways. You will read in this newspaper about changes to welfare benefits which are being introduced this year and over the course of the next few years. These changes may or may not directly apply to you, but we are all affected by them as they influence what services the Local Authority provides and what Carr Gomm is funded to do.

This year we will see Local Authorities beginning to put in place their plans for introducing Self Directed Support to people who receive services. Carr Gomm is geared up to help and support you with this, we will give you lots of information when the time comes to review your current arrangements.

Celebrating our 10th Annual General Meeting (AGM) November 2012

On Friday the 30th November we welcomed over 160 people to the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. It was our 10th AGM and the theme was ‘Making the dream possible’. The day started with an information fair featuring amongst others, Pure Gym exercise classes, AtOne Holistic therapy massage and beauty

technicians and nail therapists from Stevenson College, Edinburgh. Our guest speaker was, Laurence Clark, an internationally-acclaimed comedian, presenter, writer and actor who has cerebral palsy.

We have an exciting plan for the year ahead including many ideas you have given us on what you would find helpful to add to your support. Ideas such as garden projects and furniture recycling. Our extra fundraising is now focused on being able to raise enough money to provide a wide range of activities and projects. You will read in this Newspaper that 25 Carr Gomm staff members and supporters have climbed Kilimanjaro, including me. It’s been a real challenge for most of us, but what provides inspiration is the thought that generous people have shown their support and donated so that we can create and provide more opportunities and experiences that change people’s lives. I am sure that the experience of climbing Kilimanjaro will change my life, what would change yours?
