Carr Gomm Fashion Show New Services Update

This year has got off to a busy start. In Argyll and Bute, we won a tender to provide Homecare services similar to the types of services we run in Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow and East Lothian. This new service was up and running in January. We also welcome our new Fife service which will also operate as a Homecare service based at a new office in Dunfermline.

In the next edition of the newspaper, we will say hello to our new Borders supported accommodation service due to start in March. This will initially provide support to four people but will grow to support 16 across the year. We will also welcome another new service in Argyll and Bute to provide a Social Work Emergency Service (SWES) in the whole of the Local Authority; this is due to start on the 1st of April.

Quarter 2 Staff Survey (July, August, September) 2012

Fundraising Fashion Show a Fantastic Success

On the 4th of October, Ania Couston our Charity Shop Manager accompanied by local volunteers organised a glamorous Fashion Show at the Town House in Inverness. Over a hundred members of the local community attended and showed their generosity by raising over £3,400 on the night. This money will be used to support our community work throughout the Highlands. Ania and Lucy Wren, Chief Executive of Carr Gomm, would like to take this opportunity to thank the following:

• Highland Council who sponsored the venue • Silver Belles Choir

• Compere Morag Foster • DJ Andi Candoo

• 11 year old Ross Halkett – performed: Mary Poppins and Singing in the rain

• 13 year old Olivia Miller – Sang 2 songs and played the guitar

• 14 year old Kristen Van Egmond – did street dance together with Ross

And of course huge thanks to all the helpers and the models on the night. The helpers were: Colin, Kris, Margaret, Anne, Brenda, Jennifer, Romey, Karen, Jean F, Minnie, Ethel, Jean M, Andrew, Rena and Cath

The models were: Hazel, Tanya, Eve, Kyrene, Denise, Irene B, Ann, Irene E, Dominic, Sarah, Bob, Kristen

The quarter two survey had a response rate of 18% representing a slight increase of 5% in previous quarter. All of the responses were submitted electronically.

The results show that of the 20% of staff who replied to the survey, 71% were satisfied or very satisfied overall which is the same as in Q1. Satisfaction however remains slightly down on last year, 80% in Q4, and the three yearly survey in 2010 where the overall satisfaction level was 86%.

The percentage of people receiving 4 weeks’ notice of their rota has again slightly increased to 73% so indicating that the gradual upward trend is continuing.

We have not carried out a survey in Q3 as we are planning the larger three yearly survey for the start of next year.

Cathkinview Service, Glasgow celebrate 10 years

On the 13th of December the people we support in the Cathkinview service attended a 10 year anniversary celebration at our Glasgow Office in Paisley Road.

The Cathkinview service supports older people to remain in their own homes and local community, and is an alternative to residential care. Also in attendance at the celebration were:

• some of the people we support from other services,

• staff and previous managers, • social workers,

• Stephen Fitzpatrick head of adult social work services in Glasgow Council.

• Lucy Wren, Chief Executive, Carr Gomm • Lynn Ryden, Senior Operations Manager, Carr Gomm • Irene Edgar, Operations Manager, Carr Gomm

• the manager of the local day centre

Everyone enjoyed a good catch up with people they hadn’t seen for a while; there were some nibbles and bubbly fizz to wash it down. Lucy Wren made a speech to thank all those who attended and who had supported the service throughout the years. Stephen Fitzpatrick spoke about how these types of services are an asset to us and are so valuable to the people we support and their lives. He shared with everyone how his gran is the newest person to receive support within the service.

Agnes Rawley, the first person to receive support and who continues to receive support from Carr Gomm wrote a speech which was read out by Irene. “Carr Gomm allowed me to stay at home- that’s really important to me”.

Thanks and congratulations to all those involved- here’s to the next 10 years for Cathkinview.
