Carr Gomm’s Kilimanjaro Climbers
People we support and relatives’ survey
Thank you to everyone who returned the surveys during both quarters – feedback is always useful to help improve the services that we provide.

The response rate for surveys sent to relatives was 29.7%; 178 surveys were issued with 53 returned.
In terms of overall satisfaction with the service provided, 92% of people supported were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ and feedback from relatives indicated 84.91% of people were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the service received.
In Quarter 3 of the 811 surveys issued 168 were returned; a response rate of 20.7%, slightly up on quarter 2 as noted above.
(Continued from page.1) The brave 25 arrived into the 30 degree heat of Moshi, Tanzania, on Valentine’s Day and began their adventure…
The Machame route – also known as the “whisky route” – begins at the Machame Gate entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park and the first day of trekking was about 12km all uphill through the rain forest. As light faded, the group left the rain forest and arrived into camp to find their tents erected and a feast of food being prepared. Days two and three involved crossing valleys, clambering up steep ridges, traversing moorland and feeling the effects of altitude sickness – sore heads, loss of appetite and general grumpiness!
Day four began with a near vertical scramble up the Great Barranco Wall, before the trek meandered through alpine desert and under
massive glaciers. Always “pole pole” (slowly, slowly). Day five was a shorter trek - but tough as the oxygen content in the air was so low – to reach Barafu Camp for rest and a few uncomfortable moments of sleep.
Current fundraising total: £30,000
We did it.
For Andrew and David - and the other trekkers - their dream has been caught. But that is not the end of the story. It is time to chase a new dream…

The Home Heat Helpline advises people who are worried about paying their fuel bills and keeping warm during the winter. It also gives advice to low-income households in urgent need of heating help and information. It is free to call and is open 9am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 10am-2pm on Saturdays.
A good way to save money and reduce your energy bills is to take steps to make your home more energy efficient. Not only will it cut costs but it will help the environment too.
Little things such as turning your thermostat down or switching to the new energy saving light bulbs can help, while insulation and replacement boilers will save you money — and you may qualify for a grant or discounts to help with the cost.
