up as previously mentioned. Te “Negotiated Sales Lists” area on the home page acts the same way as the cata- log. Here one can choose a county out of a drop down box and can either read the list as it is or filter by sales type (S2, S3, and S4).

Te addition of parcel mapping to the COSL website will not only benefit tax- payers and individuals interested in re- searching tax delinquent properties, but county offices and the COSL office as well. Research can now be done online reducing the need to contact county offices for mapping and other county records. Te easier it is for individuals to research, the more they will attend auctions to purchase property. What this means for the county offices is increased revenue. Tey will receive the delinquent taxes they need and properties return to a tax-generating status. Tese funds are essential to county services and it is imperative that the COSL works to put them back where they belong. Te original owners of properties that are sold at auction and through the negotiated sales process are eligible for the amount that was bid above the taxes, penalties and interest. However, if those funds are not claimed after four years, they too are returned to the county. A COSL spokesperson said their office has received numerous compli- ments already from constituents and county officials alike. Turston said he is pleased to have the capability to offer this service and has expressed his gratitude to DataScoutPro for building it and for working closely with COSL staff to continue to enhance it. He said he hopes it “assists the public with their research needs, fulfilling a need for this information to be more easily assessable.” He went on to say that by the information being readily available on- line “county officials can direct people to the website, and spend less time

our site, use the mapping tools and let us know what you think.

trying to manually gather the informa- tion for individuals.” Garland County Tax Collector Re-

becca Talbert has viewed the site and said she is excited for the public to have this available to them. “I am loving the way you guys are using

new technology to help not only the col- lectors but also the citizens of Arkansas,” Talbert said. “Keep up the good work!” Talbert said she believes it will increase collections, putting the money back

where it belongs, which is the main goal of the collector’s offices as well as the COSL office. “Once the public learns of this I believe that the land sales will go up,

which will get parcels back on our books and money to the schools and other taxing entities quicker,” Talbert said. “Collecting taxes owed in our counties is our goal and this tool will help us achieve it.” Glenn “Bear” Chaney, Benton County Assessor, has also spent some time checking out the new tools and said “it looks GREAT!” Chaney said he realizes the vision of taking this idea and building it to something that can be used and understood by everyone. He said he agrees that with the information provided, “anyone can look at a piece of property and know exactly what they are bidding on.” “Te COSL office is happy to be able to provide this service for the taxpayers of the state, and we will continue to look for ways to improve and enhance this tool,” Turston said. “We hope that you will take some time to visit our site, use the mapping tools and let us know what you think.” For more information call the COSL at 501.324.9222 or visit the website at www.cosl.org.

This screen shot on the Com- missioner of State Lands website, www.cosl.org, shows an aspect of the new parcel level mapping capabilities. Visitors to the website can now utilize this technology to gain visual mapping information about tax delinquent properties across the state of Arkansas. John Thurston, Commissioner of State Lands, said this tool will help individuals participate in purchasing tax delinquent proper- ties which is critical to collecting the delinquent taxes and returning these parcels to tax-generating properties.
