The School of Nursing and Midwifery is part of the College of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing and is one of the largest nursing education providers in Scotland. The School provides education at campuses in Kirkcaldy (Fife) and in Dundee. Programmes in adult, mental health and children and young people’s nursing are available in Dundee; adult nursing only is available at the Kirkcaldy campus. Both campuses provide students with teaching accommodation, clinical skills, library and IT facilities, as well as access to academic staff. All programmes lead to both a degree and registration as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Our programmes reflect the ever changing face of health care in Scotland and address the political and ethical aspects of heath care provision.
Students gain experience in the clinical skills centres and participate in inter-professional learning with medical and other students. The diverse range of practice placements offers students opportunities to engage with the patient journey across the boundaries of hospital and community settings, from inner city to remote and rural locations. During practice placements, students are mentored by a registered nurse. Additionally students will experience working alongside colleagues from other health and social care disciplines such as medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social work.
Students come from a wide range of backgrounds and join a large international campus with a reputation for good student facilities and social life.

BSc Nursing is a three year programme and students elect to study one of the following fields of practice: adult nursing, mental health nursing or children and young people’s nursing.
The degree is three years long and modular in structure. Each year consists of 45 weeks, divided equally between university study and clinical practice within health and social care settings. Students will be required to pass a variety of assessments throughout the programme which will address the theory and clinical practice aspects of the programme.
Nursing at Dundee promotes genuine, compassionate and caring partnerships with patients and the wider care team. It is based on sound evidence and your practice learning takes place within a care environment which often can be busy and challenging.
Adult Nursing The adult nursing field prepares you to care for adults within the National Health Service and the independent care sector. The adult programme has been developed with the aim of equipping students with the flexibility, sensitivity and proficiency to provide quality nursing care in response to a rapidly changing world both within health care provision and in the wider society.
