Explore what makes ‘good leadership’ at University Campus Suffolk

At University Campus Suffolk (UCS) leadership forms a key focus of both research and teaching.

The School of Business, Leadership and Enterprise, headed up by Professor David Weir, prides itself on understanding what organisations need in order to develop leaders of the future. The School has built successful partnerships with major businesses such as BT and Willis in order to achieve this and enjoys strong links with multi-national companies based in the East of England, ensuring that UCS’ leadership research and teaching is grounded in business reality.

When studying management at UCS at postgraduate level, a key component of the course is examining what makes ‘good’ leadership, in both senses: that of morally good leadership - guided by ethical principles; and of technically good leadership - effective at getting the job done.

UCS has developed a portfolio which offers a number of specialist Masters courses concerned specifically with the subject of leadership in the contemporary world, including Sustainable Development, Community Leadership and Leadership for SMEs.

Academics in the School of Business have an impressive track record in research and publication on the subject of leadership, focusing on areas such as leadership development in the Arab World, Servant Leadership and Leadership on the sports field, and even contributing to a recently-published book on Leaders in Fiction. In addition, the School regularly welcomes world- class Visiting Professors and Senior Fellows from business and industry, providing students with opportunities for a stimulating challenge to the leadership debate.
