his year, the 44th NAACP Image Awards will feature fi ve nominees for Outstanding Reality Show. Dancing with the Stars was last year’s winner,

and this year it’s nominated again. Season 14 of the long-running show included Sherri Shepherd (co-host of The View), Jaleel White (best known as Steve Urkel from Family Matters) and R&B legend Gladys Knight. The surprise winner was Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver, who was the third NFL player to win the competition. Driver scored

perfect tens from the judges by busting a move to a country rap by singer Cowboy Troy. No wonder this show pulls such high ratings. If you’ve ever watched Real Sports with

Bryant Gumbel on HBO, you know it’s more about what happens off the fi eld than on. Now into the show’s 18th season, Gumbel and his team of reporters — including Frank Deford, Mary Carillo and Bernard Goldberg — present the sports stories that other networks don’t usually cover. Some of last season’s stories included a report of fan-on-fan violence, the stigma of gay athletes, the tragic hazing incident at Florida A&M University and NFL players addicted to painkillers.

The X Factor is, of course, Simon Cowell’s

latest music competition show, based on the British show of the same name. Unlike the judges on American Idol, X Factor judges mentor the fi nalists, helping them with song selection and styling. Season 2 judges included Cowell, Britney Spears and record producer L.A. Reid, with additional coaching from singers Justin Bieber, Marc Anthony and will.i.am. Throw in guest performances by Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys, and you have one star-studded show. The show auditioned hundreds of people from all over the country and put the contestants through a boot camp to eliminate the riffraff. The winner
