frican-American female showrunners are in the business of entertaining while using the power of their pens to evoke, envelope and enlighten. The following are some of the best and brightest creative minds in Hollywood.


YVETTE LEE BOWSER Yvette Lee Bowser (Living Single, Lush Life, Lipstick Jungle) is one of Hollywood’s top scribes. Bowser got her start as an apprentice on The Cosby Show spinoff A Different World. Currently, she is the showrunner and executive producer of the Image Award-nominated TV Land series, The Soul Man, starring Cedric “The Entertainer” and Niecy Nash. Yvette helped pave the way for future writers when she became the fi rst African- American female to develop her own prime-time series during the ‘90s. She is credited with giving a voice to the professional African-American woman when she introduced us to the world of six friends who were living single in Brooklyn on the wildly popular sitcom Living Single. Bowser also created the comedy For Your Love and was one of the creative minds behind the scenes on Half & Half and others shows like Happily Divorced, The Exes, Lipstick Jungle, Hangin with Mr. Cooper and the Wayans Bros. In addition to running the show on The Soul Man, Bowser serves as vice chair of the Writers Guild of America, West’s infl uential Showrunner Training Program committee.
