UNIFINDER CREATOR
How did you come up with the idea for UniFinder?
The idea for UniFinder started when I was choosing which universities to apply for at the start of upper sixth. I found myself trawling through prospectuses and university league tables, whilst not having a clue of the whereabouts of many of the universities - it was just a list of names of places I had heard of, but could not place on a map. It was clear that what I needed was a map of universities that I could apply to, with all the details to compare them in one place. I had to do a computing practical project so I decided to actually make it.
What do students need to do to use it? All you need to do to use UniFinder is to enter your A-level grades so it can match you to universities, and enter your postcode so UniFinder can work out how far away from home the universities are.

oud! spoke to UniFinder creator James Russell. His new website enables you to quickly and easily fi nd the right university for you. UniFinder matches you with universities based on your predicted grades and how far you want to study from home. Try it at:

How popular has it been so far? UniFinder has been growing fast. It was put live on February this year and there are already more than a thousand users. This was quite a surprise to me – I only put UniFinder online because people in my sixth form found it useful. A few months later I noticed more and more people signing up so I kept maintaining & improving it and now it’s growing faster than ever.
