When Did You Decide You Wanted to go to the North Pole, and What Prompted that Particular Decision? I decided I wanted to venture to the North pole purely by being turned down for the south pole, I sent off an application to join Ben Fogle and James Cracknel on the 2007 race to the south pole but unfortunately I didn’t get it in on time and it was suggested I reach out to an organisation that were aiming for the North Pole. All of this followed a life decision I made after have a gun pointed and fi red at me in an altercation one night in hackney. I realised my life wasn’t going the way I wanted and it was time to make a change. I thought about my happiest times and came to the conclusion they were all during times I spent exploring diff erent environments as a child and I wanted to recreate that happiness but on a more mature level.
Is there a Specific Moment from Your Epic Journey to the North Pole that You Know You Will Always Remember, Perhaps Above all Others? The moment that stands out most for me during my North Pole trek came about six days into the journey, in London I had become accustomed to my own company and I started to fi nd my team mate more and more irritating as the were always there and
I couldn’t get any alone time. Anyway we were walking across miles of frozen ocean, I stopped for a moment and started to take in the scenery, it was the most amazing thing I had ever encountered, the sky and the ground beneath our feet were a pure white with absolutely no distinctive features. I did a full 360 degree turn and at that moment I realised that in my world at that time there was no one else just me and them. It came as a real shock/wake up call for me and that moment; I will never forget.
