“There are always lots of ups and downs in this sport. It’s a lot of hard work but when you look around and see horses, the great outdoors, clouds in the sky, kids and horses succeeding it becomes a nice feeling." - Erin

middle of the night in bad weather to check the horses, drove the vans…every- thing! These were big sales barns so I not only got to ride the sale horses, I took a bunch of them to the shows.” “I returned to the US and set up a business in Los Angeles. Cece Bloum

and Lori DeRosa asked me to catch ride a few at Indio in 1998 and we kind of clicked right away. I loved working with them and having Lori on the ground, she is one of the best. They started pushing me to come to San Diego with them and finally I did. It was a magical ten years there. I had amazing success but specifically with a horse named Rumba owned by the Wilkinson family. At indoors in the east, Steven and Kate Spielberg took an interest in the horse for their daughter Destry. She was young and just coming off of ponies but it was obviously a great match and he was sold.” “So back to LA I went to be closer, finally settling in Malibu where I am

now at a private place owned by Drew Leonard. Sometimes things work out differently than we would like but in the long run it’s OK and this move was one of those. The barn in right across Pacific Coast Highway and the beach, we can walk over there for lunch when we want. It’s private and quiet without a large number of boarders and that is nice.” “It was really difficult being away from Newmarket in the beginning,” Erin continues. “But they were so supportive during that transition time it has worked out. Now we stable together at the shows and Lori helps me on the ground with the open horses. I also have been fortunate for Leslie Steele to have always supported and encouraged me. ” Erin’s perspective on the horse business and life in general is actually quite

interesting. “There are always lots of ups and downs in this sport. It’s a lot of hard work but when you look around and see horses, the great outdoors, clouds in the sky, kids and horses succeeding it becomes a nice feeling. Along with that, seeing really great people ride and teach, paying attention especially at bigger shows, sitting and watching the warm up ring. I learn so much just watching and listening and actually hearing. Sometimes when we are quiet we learn the most.”
