VOLUME 4 Multi-Flow Map Enhancing the Thinking Process

The Multi-Flow Map is used for illustrating and analysing cause and effect relationships. It identifies the causes an effect of an event. It begins with a center rectangle where an important event is written down. On the left a series of rectangles lists the causes of the event while on the right the effects of the events are written. Add arrows pointing to the right to show how the causes lead into the event and how the effects come out of the event.

The event must show action. Causes do not have to match or balance with the effects. Students can also add a “Frame of Reference” to a multi-flow map where they can write where they got the information or what sources used to identify the cause and effect.
