THE NORTHWEST FRONTIER

When I was young, one of the wildest and most exciting places in the world was the Northwest Frontier of India and the Khyber Pass. Those were the days when the British Raj was in charge, and Cary Grant, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. and Victor McLaglen acted the part of Her Majesty’s soldiers fighting the murderous cult of Thuggee in RKO’s 1939 film Gunga Din.
The Indian Northwest Frontier is still one of the most dangerous places in the world, made even more so by the partitioning of India after WWII. Several of those northwestern states are now part of Pakistan including Punjab, Afghania, disputed Kashmir, Sind and Baluchistan. Immediately north of India lie Nepal, Bhutan and old Nefar (which is now India’s Arunachal Pradesh). Beyond these northern lands lies China. Bangladesh is shoe-horned between India’s eastern states with Myanmar (Burma) on India’s west.
The area delineated above, where India and China confront each other, is one of the world’s most critical areas militarily, but much more significantly is the world’s prime area with regards to warfare against demonic spirits. This area is today what Ephesus and Pergamum were to the primitive church. The question is where is our modern John the Beloved to pray down the pagan temples? Where are our stead- fast martyrs like Antipas?
World Missionary Evangelism’s control center in this part of the world is at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. This is where we are completing a multi-floored home that will house up to a maximum of five hundred tribal children as well as accommodating meetings of pastors and evangelists for special training. WME’s representatives can walk across the border into China and Burma from their centers in Arunachal Pradesh. Here the Indians look like Chinese because there has been such a con- stant flow of peoples across these borders over the years.
Physical weaponry will never defeat the forces of darkness. Only weapons that are mighty to the pulling down of the strongholds of Satan will prevail in this spiritual climate. Pray for us that we can do our part to assure His victory. Help us prepare the horse for battle…the victory will be of the Lord.
