Lorraine Williams LORRAINE Williams (47) re- turned to Park Wood for the final decade of her life, after previously living


in


Shepway. The former Senacre School pupil was known throughout the local area from her time as a tough-tackling right back forMaidstone Ladies andMaid- stone Tigresses. Lorraine was part of one of the most success- ful sides in the history of women’s football locally, and her talents had taken her to play in USA, Greece and Spain. Lorraine had one daughter – Stacey – and went on to work for UK Envelopes in Aylesford where workmates included her football teammates. Stacey said: “Mymum’s team-


mates still say they’re glad she was on their side because they’d have been scared to face her on an opposing team! “She was very loved and very


loud and loved a laugh and a joke and could be very outgo- ing. She was really close to her grandchildren and lots of peo- ple are really going to miss her because she had that loving quality that allowed her to do anything for anyone. She was my mother, but also my best friend.”


Lorraine leaves her mother Linda, two sisters, her daughter and grandchildren Owen, Harley and Honey.


Malcolm Jacques MALCOLM “Malc” Jacques (71) lived in Barming for most of his life. Raised on South Park Road and a pupil at Southborough School, Malc went on to be- come known throughout the area from his career in con- struction. After serving a bricklaying ap- prenticeship with R Corben and Son, he went on to work in his chosen trade, moving into gen- eral building and finishing his career as a site supervisor.Malc worked on major sites and small projects, and took his skills all over Kent.


We will remember


Married for 51 years to Brenda, Malc was father to Paul, David and Gary and became a strong father figure to his nephew Michael following the death of Michael’s father. Son Paul said: “My dad was devoted to his children, grand- children and to his nephew. He lived his life to the full, got on well with others and passed his passions on to his sons, espe- cially his love of football, where he supported us in playing for Crusaders locally, and his love of music.” Malc leaves his wife, sons, nephew Michael, and grand- children Amy, Abby, Sam, Aden, Charlie and Harry


Carolyn Joyner CAROLYN Frances Joyner (66) lived locally after her marriage to Michael in 1966. The couple moved to Bearsted and spent the last 35 years near Ulcombe. Born Car-


olyn Hughes in Romford, Essex, she had met Michael at the age of 14 and spent much of her working life using her secretarial skills sup- porting his career as a builder. The couple were parents to Michelle and Nicholas. Michael Joyner said: “Carolyn was very family-orientated and loved holidays. In recent years we had cruised all over the world. She was a wonderful home-maker and a gentle and loving person.” Carolyn leaves her husband, children and grandchildren Thomas, Kieran, William and Hermione.


Michael Hanson MICHAEL Hanson (77), who spent the final decade of his life at Riverside Park, East Farleigh, waswell-known throughout the area from a career working as a joiner and carpenter, noted for his artisan skills and talents. Born in Boughton Monchelsea, his homes over the years also


included Boxley and Coxheath. Michael’s father ran the garage


in Linton, on the current site of the Shell garage, and Michael served an apprenticeship with Corben’s building firm,working with them before becoming self- employed.His subsequent work included contracts for his for- mer employers and a range of work throughout the area. Michael’s marriage to Betty produced sons Paul and Steve. After separating from Betty, he spent the final 15 years of his life with partner Jenny. Paul said: “My Dad had a real


talent for his work. The artisan quality that allows people to be really creative with wood was definitely there with him, and he was also known for doing su- perb restoration work on old cars, including an Austin 12/4 and an Austin Swallow. He showed his cars and won a prize at the Kent Show one year.”


Michael leaves one sister, his


sons, his partner Jenny and granddaughters Gemma and Amy.


Rex Spruce REX Spruce (82), of Charlton Street, Fant, had lived locally since 1975, moving to the area whileworking for Thorn Lighting. He went on to serve as a porter at West Kent Hospital in Marsham Street and re- tired as head porter at Maidstone Hospital in Hermitage Lane. Born in Norfolk, Rex joined the


Army before working in a de- partment store in Islington. There he met wife of 54 years, Laureen, and the couple’s chil- dren were Ann, Paul and Linda. Daughter Ann said: “My Dad


was a true family man, we will miss him dearly. He followed Norwich City, liked watching and playing snooker and loved reading and doing puzzles. He was a loving, caring man who


worked after he retired as a vol- unteer driver for a disabled boy. He was always smiling.” Rex leaves his wife, children


and grandchildren Kerry, Marc, Gavin and James.


Alan Bye ALAN Bye (81), who lived in ParkWay, Maidstone, from 1970, was known throughout the area as a horticulturalist who had given talks to many local organi- sations. Born near


Twyford in Berkshire, he was the son of a ploughman. He trained as a draughtsman and did na- tional service before working atWaterers, a plant nursery near Wargrave, Berkshire. He played cricket and football. He and his wife of 56 years,


Hilda, raised daughter Decia and moved locally when Alan took a post as manager at De Jager, a Dutch bulb firm based at Mar- den. In 1975 he got a job as out- door manager at Ruxley Manor Garden Centre in Sidcup, where he worked until he retired. Alan wonmedals for his plants


at Edenbridge & Oxted and Kent agricultural shows. He was a member of Maidstone Horticul- tural Society for 30 years, acted as vice chairman and was made a life member. Daughter Decia said: “He lived


for his family and his plants.” Alan leaves his wife, daughter,


Decia and grandchildren, Alexia and Sion.
