The SilverJack™ is the right product to install on most moderate fl owing wells as it is guaranteed not to leak like a traditional pump jack and costs far less.


Doug Kinnard, SilverJack™ project manager at Zedi Inc., says the product is radically diff erent from the lumbering jacks that dot the prairies today.


“The fi rst thing we did was add rod rotation,” says Kinnard. “We now have the ability to rotate the polish rod and that is important because in a deviated well there are always little bends and curves.”


The SilverJack™ now puts a slight turn on that polish rod with each stroke ensuring that it is never in the same position as it moves through the hole, as a traditional pump jack would.


“The second major change we made was to introduce the Tandem Pump Skid option,” explained Kinnard. “SilverJack™ lets you put up to six wells together on a single pad, and to make it even more effi cient you can use one motor to power two SilverJack™ systems.”


With just one power pack – which provides the power to stroke the cylinder up and down – producers can now control two cylinders at the same time. The resulting operational savings are found in maintaining a single engine for every pair of wells.

“If you really think about it when a cylinder is going up and down the engine is really only working half of the time,” Kinnard says. “The weight of the equipment down hole pulls so the engine usually idles half the time – with development we can now maintain two wells out of sync.”


The third improvement came with the addition of remote access.


“Sitting at my desk with an internet connection I can connect to the Zedi web page – Zedi Access – load the page and it will tell me the information related to my wells. It is a huge change for operators in terms of effi ciency.”


Operators can now monitor the productivity of their wells, adjust parameters, change lift speed, and change stroke length without putting on a kilometre.


“I could log on and check my wells before I even leave home in the morning,” says Kinnard. “And, with that remote capability comes the ability to remote alarm. Now that we can communicate with the well we can be notifi ed the moment something on location changes.”


Should an engine go down, pressure suddenly drops or increases or you spring a leak in your hydraulic tank, Kinnard promises SilverJack™ supports the technology you need when you’re on the move. “If your well has a waxing issue or a problem down hole there will be an increased load on the rod string. We can sense that increase in pressure and SilverJack™ will shut down before the equipment is damaged – you don’t even have to wait until you go out there the next day to fi nd out.”


Although less glitzy than SilverJack™ high tech capabilities, a collection of

control enhancements is the integral link and drives the whole system. With a much smaller footprint, comparing a SilverJack™ to a traditional pump jack is like comparing a grape to an apple.


“SilverJack™ has a much smaller environmental and visual impact,” says Kinnard. “The smaller power pack is about fi ve feet high by about seven feet wide by six feet deep – a fairly small box. The cylinder that mounts on the wellhead is only three inches in diameter and 120 inches long.”


A leisurely drive through the country will reveal many bulky pump jacks in clusters here and there but Kinnard says the SilverJack™ is far more visually appealing.


Because of its reduced size and weight, the impact it has on its environment is greatly reduced, even though every SilverJack™ is tough enough to stand up to any itchy bovine.


“On a traditional jack you have to put that cement pad down and pilings but with SilverJack™ you can just set it on the surface – all you need is a somewhat level surface. The cylinder gets bolted directly to the well head and you are pumping within the hour.”


SilverJack™ can also be moved easily. Because so little site preparation is required, very little by way of reclamation is required. There will be no heavy slabs of concrete and diffi cult pilings to remove, nor will there be a couple thousand pound eyesore left to decay somewhere. SilverJack™ can be used again and again.
