Stud-Book sBs Horses in Sport Te interview with Dr. Marc Pierson continues.

Question: Can you share with us examples of top-performing sBs horses? MP: Let us start with the two gold medal winners. First is the sBs- registered Santos Van Het Gravenhof (renamed to Hello Santos), member of the British Olympic gold medal jumping team during the last Olympic Games in London ridden by Scott Brash. Te second winner was Vigo D’Arsouilles crowned World Champion in 2010 during the World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky with the Belgian rider Philippe Le Jeune. Te second one of the two horses is registered BWP but was approved sBs as a three-year-old, which is proof of the great knowledge and expertise of our judges. Another great sBs horse, Ad Rahmannhof ’s Bogeno (original

name of Queen’s Lover Hero) ridden by the Brazilian rider Alvaro de Miranda Neto placed 12th during the individual jumping at the London Olympic Games, which was also an outstanding result.

Question: How did these placements affect the ranking of the sBs horses in the WBFSH? MP: Te Stud-Book sBs is in fifth place of the most recent WBFSH ranking for jumping among top studbooks just after Holsteiner, KWPN, Selle Français and BWP! Tis ranking is obtained with far fewer horses registered with sBs than in the other studbooks. Should the WBFSH calculate the rankings considering the number of registered foals in each studbook, we would have an even better ranking. Te three best sBs horses, Queen’s Lover Hero, Reveur de

Hurtebise and (Hello) Santos Van Het Gravenhof, appear in the top 50 best horses in the world! All three horses are from sBs-approved stallions. Tis is more proof of the great work and confidence of our breeders. Stallions Baloubet du Rouet, Kannan and Nabab de Reve, also approved sBs, are among the top ten jumping horses in the WBFSH ranking. Te American public does not know Reveur de Hurtebise well,

but he was ridden by the Swedish rider Malin Baryard-Johnsson, and is now ridden by the French rider Kevin Staut (former European Champion) with a victory in the Grand Prix of Monaco. Other horses of great performance worth mentioning: Quarco de Kerambars, Quannan-R and Rackel Chavannaise (E.O.) have also obtained rankings in the WBFSH.

Question: What about sBs horses performing in North America? MP: Quarco de Kerambars and his Belgian rider Rik Hemeryk were at Spruce Meadows in 2011. Te Canadian Olympian champion rider, Eric Lamaze, rode between 2005-2009 Narcotique II de Muze (E.O.) and also owns several sBs horses Sidoline Vd Centaur (E.O.) and the young Ayade de Septon (R.O.+), a six-year-old that now presents some good results for French rider Kevin Staut. McLain Ward who rides Rothchild (original name: Rochild du Bosquetiau) regularly wins on both sides of the Atlantic.

Top: Ad Rahmannhof’s Bogeno (originally Queens’s Lover Hero) and his Brazilian rider Àlvaro de Miranda Neto placed 12th during the individual jumping at the London Olympic Games and winners on the Grand Prix CSI***** Lausanne (CH). Bottom: Vigo d’Arsouilles approved sBs stallion and his Belgian rider Philippe Le Jeune World Champions in Lexington at the WEG in 2010.

Let’s not forget Palouchin de Ligny with the Brazilian rider

Rodrigo Pessoa, Athena (original name Quadra-L (E.O.)) ridden by Charlie Jayne, Rush D’Hoogpoort ridden by Ben Asselin or Sandor de La Pomme ridden by Darragh Kenny. We should also mention young performing horses with bright futures such as the eight- year-old Underground des Hauts Droits with the Canadian rider Francois Lamontagne, Ushuaia Van de Wolfsakker (R.O. +) ridden by Christina Kelly, Utopie Les Hauts (R.O.+) ridden by Ainsly Vince, the seven-year-old Valeska Van de Wolfsakker ridden by Charlie Jayne, Vanetty-B (R.O.) ridden by MacCone, and Vegas du Houssoit ridden By Danielle Cooper. Plus there are the approved sBs stallions that were exported to the U.S.: Radco D’Houtveld, Diktator Van de Boslandhoeve, Plutot de Beaufour and Hunters Scendix. Tis list is not limited to those mentioned and is constantly increasing by newly performing sBs horses imported each year to the U.S. v
