Here are the names of several sBs

stallions that were approved prior to their exportation to the U.S.: Radco D’Houtveld, Diktator Van de Boslandhoeve, Plutôt de Beaufour and Hunters Scendix. Before bringing the sBs to North America, there was no system in place to facilitate information exchange or the registration of American-born offspring by these stallions. We have met several North American

representatives to events in other countries. However, the consistent results of our top sBs horses at international events are the best promotion that we have.

Question: Why has the sBs expanded to the international market? MP: Very honestly because our horses are deserving of it! We are all familiar with the great reputation of the Belgian sport horses. Tere is an international demand for our horses that is found in all four corners of the world (Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Middle East, South Africa and Australia). Our expertise at breeding, inspection, and competition levels

requires the sBs to broaden its markets outside of Belgium where the markets are larger. While Belgium is physically a small country, many loyal, high quality breeders are here. Based on demand, many sBs horses have been and will continue to be exported.

Question: Amongst all the possible markets, why is the sBs focusing so strongly on the U.S.? MP: In the U.S., there is a large demand for high quality sport horses and also there is a large pool of very qualified riders. Te import of sBs horses started long ago in the U.S. and has been very successful. Tere are many: Narcotique II de Muze (E.O.) who had an exceptionally bright career with Canadian rider Eric Lamaze, Rothchild (original name Rotchild du Bosquetiau) associated with American rider McLain Ward, Palouchin de Ligny with Brazilian rider Rodrigo Pessoa, Athena (original named Quadra-L (E.O.)) with Charlie Jayne, (Hello) Sanctos VH Gravenhof with British rider Scott Brash, Sandor de La Pomme with Darragh Kenny and also young horses such as Underground des Houts Droits, Ushuaia Van de Wolfsakker (R.O.+), Valeska Van de Wolfsakker, Vannety-B (R.O.+) and more.

breeders who have a significant interest in working with Stud-Book sBs and who have mentioned to us the need to be present in the American market. We then began to actively work at modifying some of our regulations to better fit the American demand, and now we have a good system in place. Since 2010, our inspectors have made several trips to the U.S. for

stallion inspections. Starting this fall, we will have an inspection for broodmares and foals. Ronda Stavisky at Rising Star Farm has taken the reins of the administration process in the U.S. Since the beginning of this process, we have approved approximately 15 stallions in the U.S. and we are registering an increasing number of foals born in America. Our sister office, sBs-NA, handles all the paperwork for us.

Question: What are the future plans for the sBs for North America? MP: We still have a lot of work ahead of us in North America. Te challenge is real but we are committed and are working with ambition, determination and optimism! Our relentless quest for quality will be our guide during all upcoming stallion inspections and for labeling the quality level of mares presented for inspection on both sides of the Atlantic. As we grow, more inspection sites will be offered. Stud-Book sBs will continue to expand both at home and in

international markets. We will also continue to monitor closely the performances of the sBs horses in international competition and will promote their results. v
