Confectionery Confab
Confectionery confab
Marcia Mogelonsky, director of Insight. Mintel Food & Drink shares her thoughts on life with Chris Shaw.
Who was you biggest influence as a child? My mother. She was a wireless operator in military intelligence in World War II. She was one of the first women to fill that role in Canada; she monitored the Japanese submarines off the coast of Vancouver Island. She believed that her daughters could do anything they set their mind to.
Do you have any unfulfilled ambitions? Many! I would like to be a better pianist
than I am now, and I would love to learn to fly a plane (there’s more, but not enough space to list them here)
Your perfect Sunday morning song? Since I am Jewish, my “Sunday” song is really a Friday/Saturday song: Lecha Dodi, the song we sing on Friday nights to welcome the Sabbath.
What advice would you give to your 18 year old self? Do no harm.
What is your idea of success? A happy home and a healthy family.
When was the last time you laughed so hard it hurt? My husband and I spend a lot of time laughing together. We find life extremely amusing.
Your top three dinner guests – dead or alive? Frank Lloyd Wright, Prince Charles, and Amelia Earhart
What attracted you to the confectionery industry? My passion for chocolate and my desire to understand why I love it so much.
If you only had one book which would it be? Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice
What is your idea of success?
“A happy home and a healthy family.”
Your earliest memory? Being rescued by the fire department when I locked myself in my grandparents’ apartment bathroom. I was two years old.

Complete this sentence: “I wouldn’t have got where I am today without...” The support of my husband. I switched careers about 20 years ago, and he supported me as I moved from archaeology to market research.
