Enabling energy efficient candy production with innovative processing machines
I
n the confectionery industry, one of the most discussed topics – and maybe the most important topic - is total cost of ownership (TCO). The TCO measure shows machine owners how much their machine costs to run and maintain over its lifecycle, and can be affected by factors such as the amount of energy consumed by the machine, the cost of packaging materials used, and the overall performance of a production line. Due to its strong role in TCO, energy efficiency is now a top priority for confectionery producers, enabling them to reduce costs, while supporting the environment and improving their reputations. To fuel this drive for efficient processing and help manufacturers reduce their energy use, Bosch Packaging Technology, a leading supplier of complete production and packaging lines for sugar-based confectionery products, chewing gum and bars, has developed new candy processing equipment. Bosch’s experts focused on reducing energy consumption and cooking requirements, helping manufacturers realize significant cost savings compared to other methods of candy production.
Energy saving and cost efficiency
During the production of soft chewable and hard candies, water is added to the recipe to dissolve sugar to create a crystal-free solution. Following this phase, that water must be vaporized to solidify the sugar mass, an energy
