Fish barbecues boost for Mission
Looe fishmonger Angela Pengelly and her family supported the work of charity the Fishermen’s Mission during their fish barbecues this summer.
‘We are very grateful to Angela and her family who provided and cooked their wonderful fish and to all their customers who helped raise valuable funds,’ said Gina Moore, South West fundraising manager for the Fishermen’s Mission.

She continued: ‘As a charity we rely entirely on voluntary giving to fund our work of caring for fishermen and their families.
‘These funds help the Mission provide emergency support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year at our welfare centre in Newlyn.’
Seafront fireworks saved
The annual fireworks display on Looe seafront on New Year’s Eve has been saved.
There was much disappointment expressed when its cancellation was announced by the town council.
This was due to there being no one to take on the organisation and fundraising from previous organiser Michaela Powell, who had stood down.
Deputy mayor Armand Toms and Susan Pengelly are heading a group of local
people who are determined to make the fireworks an even bigger event to herald in 2013.
Volunteers are being sought to help on the night and for a special community event the following morning for the clean up.
Donations are being sought for the £3,000 needed to be raised and fundraising has started.
