Ward Managers • AfC Band 7


Exciting and challenging opportunities have arisen to join our established teams at The Riverside Centre and The Gordon. We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic and clinically confident Ward Managers.


You will be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with five years’ post-registration experience, at least two years’ experience of managing people and with a proven background in mental health inpatient care. Ideally you will need to be educated to degree/masters level or working towards this and have completed a mentorship qualification. You should have a genuine interest in working with acute mentally ill service users from a culturally diverse population. You will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be capable of problem solving and working well under pressure. You should have strong leadership skills, be able to co-ordinate the work of the team and provide supervision to junior colleagues. You will have the support of the Matron and extended MDT as well as time for reflective practice, supervision and CPD opportunities.


You will be committed to delivering the highest quality user-centred care in accordance with national and local initiatives and evidence-based practice. You should have sound skills and competencies in line with the job description and person specification.


Based: Riverside Centre, Hillingdon x 2 posts • £34,811 - £44,508 pa incl • Ref: 333-010-AC


One post is for our male only ward and the other for our female only ward within the Hillingdon Borough of the Trust’s Adult Inpatient Service Line. Crane Ward is an 18- bedded female only ward and is on the ground floor of the Riverside Centre in the grounds of the Hillingdon Hospital site, and Frays Ward is a 23-bedded male only ward.


Both wards offer inpatient care for formal and informal admissions under the Mental Health Act (1983) for patients with acute or severe and enduring mental illness and aims to support their families/carers.


The key tasks for inpatient ward teams are to provide assessments and a range of medical, nursing, social and psychological interventions that are based on good practice, recovery model so that the patient can be discharged back home, or to an appropriate community setting as quickly as possible.

You will work within Westminster at the heart of the Trust’s Adult Inpatient Service Line. Gerrard Ward is the Triage ward for Westminster, taking admissions from all around the borough, initially to assess then decide on how to proceed.


The key tasks for inpatient ward teams are to provide assessments and a range of medical, nursing, social and psychological interventions that are based on good practice, recovery model so that the patient can be discharged back home, or to an appropriate community setting as quickly as possible.


The Gordon Hospital is at the heart of Westminster. The hospital has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment programme, and now offers both clients and staff a modern, light, airy and welcoming feel. Its central location means it is easily accessible by all forms of public transport and has a wealth of amenities on hand.

We are seeking a Ward Manager with at least five years’ experience within an acute mental health inpatient setting, at least two of which will have been at Band 6 level. You will be based on our 14-bedded adult male only PICU Nile Ward at St Charles Hospital, Chelsea.


You will have a passion and enthusiasm in delivering care and therapy as you lead your highly motivated multidisciplinary team of nursing staff and other professionals within a high quality evidence based practice.


You will have management responsibility for the ward in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures, manage administrative and operational resources, evaluate the standard of service delivered and co-ordinate multidisciplinary working whilst maintaining excellent communication and working relationships with all team members and other services within the Trust.
