OWNERS ASSOC. OF
RVOABC PRESIDENT’S CORNER
BY BILL WRIGHT
Greetings RVers, AGM REMINDER and PLEA
Te “AGM”, our Annual General Meeting, is scheduled for 10am Saturday, October 20th,
2012 at Traveland Supercentre,
20529 Langley Bypass, Langley, so please mark your calendars as the time is closing in and we need you or someone you know to come forward and stand for a position or assistant position. We are in need of a Vice President to take over the rallies as Don Smith will be stepping down this October. Fresh blood is needed, along with new ideas to build a strong
and healthy Association. If you, or someone you know, is willing to stand for a position
on the Executive, please contact a member of the Election Committee, either Barbara Tilley at 604-538-3457 or Barry Clark at 604-466-5432.
THE RV TIMES Good news from Sheila, “Ms. RV Times”. She has decided by
popular DEMAND to print six editions each year and this is one of them, with one more to come this year with the November/ December issue. Tanks, Sheila, we missed you.
RALLIES Tis July we put together a Summer Rally at Eagle Vista RV
Resort & Campground at 1940 Centennial Way, Squamish, BC. Fourteen rigs attended and judging from the quick survey we did of the people attending, everyone thought that we should come back again and maybe make it a three-day rally next time. Tey liked the location and also the smaller numbers, making it easier to get to know people. Many of our people booked extra night before and aſter the rally. For those who missed out I strongly suggest when thinking of a place to go, Eagle Vista is on your list. We are looking at the Penticton area for something similar
next year but July and August are extreme prime times for the Okanagan, making it difficult to get enough space. Based on our experience with Eagle Vista it may be worth considering more smaller rallies, limited to about 15 rigs. Tis would make it easier to book and would give us a greater selection of RV parks to choose from. We also could then consider having a greater number of rallies in different locations.
RVOABC 2012 EXECUTIVE: L-R: Don Smith, Jan Clarke, Bill Wright, Trenor Tilley, Joyce McCluskie SURVEY Tanks to all of you who took the time to complete our online
survey last month. While less than 25% of our membership responded, the information that we received will be useful when planning where the Association goes in the future. While all of you expressed satisfaction with the RVOABC, many stated that they wished to see more and varied rallies in addition to the large structured rallies we have had in the spring and fall, such as smaller coordinated rallies with few, if any, planned activities and destination rallies timed to coordinate with another event. While most of the respondents felt that power hookups were desirable, fewer needed water and sewer. In fact the largest support was for any type of rally, confirming the previous response for more and varied rallies. As well, there was overwhelming support for rallies to be held any time, not just on weekends. And as for location, the greatest support was for the Okanagan, followed by the Lower Mainland area. However there was good support for other areas such as the Cariboo, Whistler and the Kootenays. Only Vancouver Island rated low, probably as a result of the high ferry fares.
OFF–SEASON EVENTS Tere was mixed support for the idea of “off season” events such
as a Christmas dinner. Tis may be worth trying just to see how many people come out. Overall, the information provided was useful, and will be
considered by the Executive when planning future events. Tanks again to all of you who took the time to give us your feedback.
